The Center for Integrative Conservation at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (Xishuangbanna_Tropical_Botanical_GardenXTBG), Yunnan, invites applications from prospective graduate students, post-docs and full-time faculty (at the Assistant and Associate Professor level) in Conservation Biology. The Center for Integrative Conservation is a new group led by Professor Richard Corlett and is currently recruiting staff at all levels. XTBG has excellent research facilities and is located in one of the biologically richest regions of Asia. Program for Field Studies in Tropical Asia - Registrations are open

The Program for Field Studies in Tropical Asia runs a variety of12_3_DoiInthanon courses aimed at young researchers, whose studies focus on the ecology and conservation of biodiversity the tropical Asia-Pacific region. Currently the courses are aimed at post-graduate students, including those studying for an MSc degree or PhD, and researchers at an equivalent academic level in governmental or non-governmental organisations concerned with the environment. Travel awards and course fellowships are offered to some participants from lower-income countries in the tropical Asia-Pacific region. TBA is organizing field-based courses on the ecology and conservation of tropical ecosystems for 2012. TBA will be running 3 month-long courses in :

  • Amani Nature Reserve, Tanzania: 24 July - 23 August
  • Segera, Kenya: 1 – 30 September
  • Kirindy Forest, Madagascar: 14 November – 15 December

Honorary Fellows, Bonito 2012

Professor Paulo S. Oliveira awarded Honorary Fellow 2012

Since 1963 the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation has awaATBC2012_22June__22rded Honorary Fellowships to individuals who, through a long distinguished career, have contributed greatly to the advance of tropical biology and/or the conservation of tropical ecosystems. During the 2012 annual meeting of the ATBC which took place between the 18th and the 22nd of June in Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, two acknowledged scientists were awarded Honorary Fellowship, Pr. Paulo S. Oliveira (Photo © tropicalbio.org) and Richard Primack.

All Honorary Fellows are individuals who have an extraordinary long-term commitment to the cause of tropical biology and/or conservation, who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in this field, and who have played a tremendous role in the mentorship and inspiration of new generations of tropical biologists and conservationists. To this date 80 individuals from 17 different countries have been honored with this award, and every year one or two additional Honorary Fellows are appointed, during the Association’s annual meeting.
